Our values and responsibility

Heartfelt hospitality

Our values

We support the work and purpose of our owner community by providing an internationally high-quality housing service, taking into account the principles of sustainable development. Our work and actions are guided by the values that we consider important, both now and in the future.

Trust

We offer the feeling of a second home.

For us, trust means creating a home-like environment and sense of community for our customers. It means that we guarantee our guests a safe, secure, and functional stay at our properties. Home is the most important place for a person, and every booking is a show of trust for us. We want to be worthy of this trust — every day, in every encounter.

Desire to improve

We listen to what the world needs from us.

We have the privilege to meet people from different countries and cultures each day. We approach this as a unique opportunity to learn and renew. A chance to examine how to improve our customer experience and business as a responsible actor who strives to develop sustainably.

Courage

We approach the new with open minds and curiosity.

Not afraid of the changing world, but eager to take proactive steps toward progress, we dare to think differently if needed and to act on it. We have the courage and willingness to make changes that benefit nature and our customers — with attention to social, ecological, and cultural points of view.

Enthusiasm

We enjoy what we do, and we let it show.

We see enthusiasm as a genuine interest in our customers’ comfort and our co-workers’ well-being. With heart and passion, we strive to share that positivity with others. We believe that every encounter holds a chance to make someone’s day a little better.

Responsibility in our operations

To us, responsibility involves constant development grounded in our values, aiming for more sustainable living, all while honouring the environment, people, and culture. We only work with trustworthy partners and build new partnerships where we can jointly create value for our customers and society. This work is continuous, as responsibility is not a single project but part of our day to day.

We develop our operations through our own initiative, not because of external pressure. Our interest in responsible and sustainable development is reflected in the long and exacting work at our Töölö Towers property, which has been recognised with a Good Travel Seal level 2 certificate. The certificate encompasses 63 sustainability criteria, which we have achieved through determined effort. We’ve highlighted practical examples of our work toward sustainability and responsibility further on this page.

How is ecological responsibility visible in Töölö Towers?

The University of Helsinki Group, which also includes Töölö Towers, has joined the national Energy Efficiency Agreement for the Property Sector. Through this agreement, the University of Helsinki Group has committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2030. The ecologically sustainable development of our properties is carried out by our property maintenance company HY247. We work in close cooperation with them and our property company to promote sustainability.

Examples of our commitment to ecological sustainability:

Sustainable food

  • We favour Finnish and Fairtrade food ingredients and sustainably produced organic food in our breakfast service.

Sustainable water consumption

  • We provide our guests with information about the Finnish tap water, the highest quality tap water in the world. In this way, we encourage the use of tap water instead of bottled water.

Recycling and circular economy

  • We advise and encourage our guests to recycle. We have made waste sorting and recycling guidance possible in all rooms and apartments as well as in the communal kitchen. Collaboration with the University of Helsinki offers a chance to further the circular economy, for instance, through furniture purchases.

How is social responsibility visible in Töölö Towers?

Our social responsibility work is especially evident in fair employment, equality and inclusion, and support for community spirit. Our mission is to offer a safe and equal work environment for our employees and a welcoming, community-driven atmosphere for our guests.

Examples of our commitment to social responsibility:

Employment

  • We offer many young people their first employment or internship opportunity and an excellent chance to progress in their career with the knowledge and skills gained here.

Equality and inclusion

  • We don’t condone any sort of discrimination based on gender, age, ethnicity, religion, disability or other personal characteristics. This applies to our employees as well as our guests. It’s also what we expect from our partners.

Communality and customer well-being

  • We consider the interactions between our guests to be an integral part of the warm and welcoming atmosphere of our properties. Töölö Towers’ spatial solutions foster a sense of community, and several friendships and even romantic relationships have begun here.

How is cultural responsibility visible in Töölö Towers?

For us, cultural responsibility is about a respectful attitude toward diversity and a desire to create an open and appreciative atmosphere for all our residents. We meet our international customers equally and take their cultural needs into account in our everyday practices. At the same time, we also highlight Finnish culture and local history as part of our customer service.

Examples of our commitment to social responsibility:

Intercultural respect

  • We value all cultural backgrounds equally, with respect and consideration. We also expect respectful behaviour from our customers toward other guests.

Promoting local cultural heritage

  • We honour the Töölö Towers’ cultural and historical significance and bring it to the forefront.

Stakeholder collaboration

  • We expect our partners to have an operating culture that supports our values and responsibility goals.
